PC running Windows 95 or later and a web browser.
At least 220mb of free disk space is required for installation on the hard drive.
The program is written as a simple web in html in order to make it easy to use and compatible with most systems. It has been specifically designed to be used with Internet Explore & Navigator products versions 4.0 and later. The program will work with other browsers but the appearance may be affected.
When you insert the CD into your CD drive the installation program should autorun and you should follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation onto your hard drive. You can change the default installation path during the installation process but we recommend you accept the default path.
If the CD does
not autorun you should click 'START' then 'RUN', 'BROWSE' to your CD ROM
directory and select 'ALL FILE TYPES' and then the file named 'MANINST'
click 'OPEN' then 'OK' to start the installation program.
A shortcut will be placed in the 'Start\Programs' menu and the desktop.
Once you have installed the program the CD ROM can be filed for safe keeping as the program will not require it in order to work.
The program can
be uninstalled with 'Add Remove Programs' from the Control Panel.
If you receive a 'PROGRAM NOT FOUND' message when you insert the CD ROM cancel the installation and follow the steps in CD ROM Installation - Other Operating Systems below.
Copy the Folder 'MANSELL CD ROM' from the CD ROM to your chosen location on the hard drive. We recommend C:\Program Files\The New Baxter Society.
Create a desktop and/or start menu shortcut to the file 'MAIN MENU' which you will find in the 'MANSELL CD ROM' folder in the location you copied it to.
Only recommended where you have insufficient free space to install the program on the hard drive.
Browse to the CD ROM drive. Open the folder 'MANSELL CD ROM' and open the file 'Main Menu'. You can make a desktop shortcut for future use but you will need to use the CD ROM each time you use the program.
The CD ROM is best viewed in a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. Other resolutions can be used but the appearance on screen will be affected. The appearance on screen may also be affected by your web browser settings and the toolbars that are installed with your web browser and your Task Bar settings.
On some older laptops the maximum viewable screen width is 800 pixels. If you are using one of these machines you may find a screen resolution of 800 x 600 pixels more manageable.
Depending on your Desktop and Browser Toolbar settings you may find that you can not see all of the right hand window without using the scrollbar. There are a number of ways to change your display so that you do not need the scrollbar on the right hand window.
1 View your browser in full screen mode. E.g. with Internet Explorer click on 'VIEW' and then 'FULL SCREEN'. You can return to the default view by clicking the 'RESTORE' icon at the top right of the screen, (the button displaying 2 overlapping windows) Alternatively you can toggle between default and full screen mode by pressing function key F11.
2 Hide any Browser Toolbars you do not use. E.g. with Internet Explorer click on 'VIEW' and then 'TOOLBARS' and then deselect the Toolbars you do not use. If you want to show these Toolbars again in the future simply reselect the items.
3 Auto-hide the Windows Taskbar so that it is only displayed when you move the mouse to the bottom of the screen. Right click on the Taskbar, click 'PROPERTIES' then select 'AUTO-HIDE THE TASKBAR'
4 Download the 'TechDis' toolbar from the internet. You can then use the 'ZOOM OUT' function on this Toolbar to fit the page to the screen. You can also use the 'ZOOM IN' function to look at the whole page images in more detail if you like. This is a great tool to have if you often find web pages hard to read as you can size them to suit your eyesight. I know people who use this well respected Toolbar without any problems but as with anything you download from the internet for free there is no warranty that it may not be the target of viruses and spy ware etc. The weblink to this toolbar is: http://www.techdis.ac.uk/index.php?p=1_20051905100544
On the Main Menu
screen select the catalogue you wish to view.
The catalogue screen is split into 3 areas.
Top left - a header that gives the title of the catalogue and a link to return to the main menu.
Lower Left - A list of the items in the catalogue showing the items number, name and sheet number where appropriate. If the list is longer than the page a scroll bar is available to view all items. You select the print or sheet you wish to view by clicking the number, name or sheet number.
Right - Displays the
selected item, either the print or the sheet where available.
Once a print has
been selected you can click on the image in the right window to view a full page
larger view of the image. Return to the catalogue page by using the back
button on your web browser.
If the program was installed using the install program it may be uninstalled using 'Add/Remove Programs'.
If you have copied the
folder to
hard disc you will need to delete the folder 'MANSELL CD ROM' and any shortcuts
you created..
